Buying Peridot Rings

The beautiful peridot is the birthstone for the month of August; but it is loved by all who have a great regard for this olive colored stone which has been in existence for centuries while peridot rings were worn by the ancient kings and queens of Egypt as a highly valued piece of jewelry. Even Cleopatra thought it was a beautiful stone and mistook the peridot for emeralds.
It was in 1500BC that the Egyptians discovered the peridot in a small island in the middle of the Red Sea and they loved it so much, that the Egyptians and Romans completely exhausted the supply of this stone a very long time ago. Legend has it that the earlier peridot was mined only during the night time because the Egyptians thought it could not be seen in daylight.
In the present day, the peridot is found in the mountains of Kashmir and is famous for their good quality and beautiful color. For this very reason they are sometimes called "Kashmir Peridots" The peridots found in this region are supposed to be unusually large and spectacular in color and of great value because of their high number of carats.
When paired and set with other gemstones peridot rings can look fantastic and one that is very popular with the young is the peridot eternity ring which consists of a fairly large peridot in the middle circled by a band of tiny diamonds that sparkle and shimmer in the light. Although most girls prefer diamonds for an engagement ring, there's no reason why a beautiful stone such as the peridot cannot be used in an engagement ring to make a statement of independence and uniqueness.
It is also believed that peridot rings bring good luck and prosperity to its wearer and this is one of the reasons for its popularity. The origin of the name Peridot has two sources. One is the French word 'peridot' meaning something vague and the second source is the Arabic word for gem 'faridat'. More commonly, the peridot is called the "poor man's emerald" because of its green color. The green of the peridot however is a different shade which is of the palest lime and the dark olive with subtle undertones of gold and brown that makes it look entrancing when set in gold for an engagement ring.
Peridot rings are very delicate and can crack at the slightest pressure. Although the period ring is a very popular birthday gift given to those born in August, unless the receiver knows how to take care of it, the value of the ring will be lost through improper use. Only a mild soap and water should be used to clean a peridot ring and harsh chemicals which will spoil the luster of the stone must never be used on this gemstone.
Most Gemstones are worn for their curative and mystical properties and the lovely peridot is no different. Something that is not commonly known is that in ancient times, the peridot was crushed and ingested to heal asthma and is also supposed to have calming properties and the ability to reduce feelings of sadness and anxiety. With so many good things attached to it, why not wear a peridot ring all the time to bring you good luck, good health and prosperity?
